Imphal, Nov.16 (ANI): The coach of London's Preston North End Club, Richard Alderson, is holding a weeklong football coaching camp for budding players here.
Alderson said the boys from Manipur need opportunity to showcase their talent and added that he is imparting the necessary training and skills to them.
"Football is the most popular sport in the world and everybody loves football including Manipuris. Also, I am aware that in the professional teams in India in the I-league teams; a lot of teams have Manipuri players. So, although the young players in Manipur do not have opportunity in this state to become professional players take it to other states in India. They can have a good career and so, if you are looking for a place in India with football culture, then Manipur is the place to come to," said Alderson.
Around 70 students below the age of 15 years are being provided training.
The budding footballers were happy about participating in the training camp, saying this will help in producing more talented players from the state in the international arena.
Several players from the academy, who had underwent training, had already represented the U-14 Indian team.
Alderson said the Manipur boys have good fighting spirit and hard physically.
"They try hard, they have good fighting spirit and they are hard physically, they are not soft as city boys. So, all of them know how to play football," said Alderson.
Manipur is being considered as a power house in Indian Sports. Many football players from Manipur are presently playing in many popular football clubs of India and many others have represented India in the international arena.
