Sydney, Nov 16(ANI): Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has started a new charity initiative with the Ponting Foundation that would organise funds for childhood cancer research.

Ponting said the Biggest Game of Cricket (BGOC) would involve thousands of people around Australia having fun with family and friends playing matches in their backyard, local park or even on the beach on Australia Day.

"I have visited hospitals across Australia and witnessed the impact that cancer has on kids and their families," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Ponting, as saying.

"In the coming year, the Ponting Foundation is making a major effort to raise additional funds to help young Australians and their families beat cancer," he added.

Ponting and wife Rianna said in a statement that BGOC was intended to raise awareness about childhood cancer and look to support education and wellness programs. (ANI)
