Sydney, Nov. 11 (ANI): Australia's forgotten top quick Mitchell Johnson has fired back into Test contention after finding 'personal peace' and re-modeling his bowling action and run-up.
While Gabba 12th man Mitchell Starc is currently Australia's No.1 ranked left-arm quick, Johnson is very much in the frame for a baggy green recall later this summer.
Johnson, 31, is now a much calmer and more settled person after overcoming some personal dramas and getting married to his wife Jess who is expecting their first child next month.
"I spent some time with him recently and he is in a much better personal place," News.com.au quoted Australian fast bowling coach Ali de Winter, as saying.
"He has found the formula for bowling well again and is much more consistent and has a lot more control. He knows his game better than ever and I have been really impressed," he added.
According to the report, with Australia indicating that it is set to rest and rotate fast bowlers throughout three festive season Tests against Sri Lanka, Johnson's strong return to form has been noted in high places.
The 2009 ICC cricketer of the year has been back working with his old mentor, pace great Dennis Lillee, and has lengthened the run-up he had shortened dramatically in his last Test in South Africa in November last year, the report said.
He has also become more upright in his delivery stride, is swinging the ball dangerously and was clocked at 148km/h in a recent one-day game for Western Australia, it added. (ANI)
