Congress asks civil society activists to avoid irresponsible public debate

Ludhiana, Sun, 11 Nov 2012 ANI

Ludhiana, Nov. 11 (ANI): Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari on Sunday suggested the civil society activists to avoid irresponsible and baseless allegations against anyone in the name of public discussion.

Talking to reporters here on his first visit after his elevation as Union Minister in the UPA -II Government, Tewari said: "Being right or wrong is not an issue, we will have to think about the nature of public discussion. False and baseless allegations are not going to benefit the society and the nation."

The Congress MP from Ludhiana was talking in the reference of veteran social activist Anna Hazare, who inaugurated his new office in New Delhi after splitting with former close aide Arvind Kejriwal.

Addressing the media after the inauguration of his office in Delhi's Sarvodaya Enclave, Hazare reiterated his demands for a strong Jan Lokpal bill and said that getting rid of the rampant corruption was a big challenge for the country.

"We will continue to press our demands for 'right to reject', and more power for Gram Sabhas etc. If these demands are met then corruption in India will take a serious decline," he said.

Hazare further said that his movement was never disrupted because of the split with Kejriwal, and added that he would begin a nationwide tour against the rampant corruption in the country from Bihar's Patna city from January 30 next year.

Hazare had parted ways with Kejriwal over the latter's plans to enter the mainstream of politics to tackle the flaws in the existing system and even contest elections. (ANI)
