London, Nov. 9 (ANI): Boxing champ Ricky Hatton has vowed to his girlfriend that no matter what happens in his upcoming fight with former Ukrainian former WBA icon Vyacheslav Senchenko, he won't go back into his old comatose state like he did after his last ill-fated fight in 2009.
Hatton was laid unconscious by great Manny Pacquiao in two rounds in 2009, following which he went into a mental meltdown, feeling so low that he feels compelled to tell strangers that he was a suicidal, lost drunk.
"I've already sworn to my girlfriend, Jennifer, that if I haven't got it any more, I am not going to risk her seeing me comatose again like I was against Pacquiao," the daily Express quoted Hatton, as saying.
"She has had to see too much already inside the four walls of our house. She's the one who would come home and find me with a knife at my wrists, drunk or sober. She isn't going to see any more," he added.
Hatton, who would now return back to the ring after almost three and-a-half years, said he is determined to prove to everyone that he is not going be known as a 'failure'.
"People say, 'What will happen if the comeback doesn't work. Will you fall off the edge again?' I say no. But I need to do this to deal with that little f***er who sits on my shoulder everyday and tells me I am a failure who let everybody down," he said.
"Everything I achieved, I've flushed it down the toilet. It doesn't matter what anybody says, that's how I feel. Once I tell them how bad it has been, they understand why I have to do this," he added. (ANI)
