New Delhi, Nov 8 (IANS) The Delhi High Court has issued notice to the Delhi government and two private schools after they failed to pay salaries to teachers according to the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations.

Justice Suresh Kait Tuesday sought response from Department of Education (DoT), C.L. Bhalla Dayanand Model School in Karol Bagh and Arya Vidya Mandir in Keshav Puram on petitions filed by 48 teachers accusing the schools of not paying them salaries as recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission.

The court, asking them to file their replies within four weeks, has listed the matter for hearing for Feb 2, 2013. The court order was made available Thursday.

The plea said DoT had failed to take action against the schools for not paying salaries to teacher in accordance with Sixth Pay Commission recommendations as required under Section 10 of the Delhi School Education Act, 1973.

The schools are under legal obligation to pay their employees pay, emoluments and other benefits as per the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations from Jan 1, 2006, and also pay arrears of salary arising there from till date, submitted advocate Ashok Agarwal appearing for the teachers.
