Naya Raipur, Nov 6 (IANS) President Pranab Mukherjee Tuesday visited Naya Raipur, the new capital of Chhattisgarh, and inaugurated the Capitol Complex, which will serve as the administrative capital of the state.
The Capitol Complex will house the secretariat and offices of heads of all government departments.
Naya Raipur, about 20 km south-east of Raipur city, became Chhattisgarh's capital Nov 1.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh said: "Naya Raipur will be the flag-bearer of a resurgent Chhattisgarh. It will reflect the rich heritage and natural beauty of the state while marching ahead to become India's best planned and modern city."
A monumental project led by the Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA), Naya Raipur is spread across 80.13 sq km and will house 560,000 inhabitants by 2031.
Addressing an annual award function organised by the state government here, the president said that Chhattisgarh, which was formed 12 years ago, is not only blessed with nature's bounties but is also full of opportunities with its fertile lands, dense forest cover, perennial rivers and abundance of human resources.
He added that Chhattisgarh has seen rapid growth in the short span of its existence and it should work for a sustainable and inclusive growth avoiding over exploitation of its resources.
President Mukherjee reached Chhattisgarh Tuesday evening on a two-day visit and will travel to Maoist insurgency-hit Narayanpur district Wednesday.
He would also dedicate a New Integrated Passenger Terminal Complex at Raipur's Swami Vivekanand Airport Wednesday. The terminal cost Rs.135.72 crore and has a 7,450 feet-long runway.
