Capello summons new names for US friendly
Moscow, Nov 6 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Real Madrid youngster Denis Cheryshev and Anzhi striker Fyodor Smolov were named in Russia football coach Fabio Capello's final 26-man squad Tuesday for a friendly against the US next week.
Cheryshev, 21, and Smolov, 22, have been the driving force behind Russia's Under-21 team scoring 10 goals between them to secure European Championships qualification.
They were both included in Capello's provisional squad for the first time last week. Otherwise just two players who featured in Russia's last match, a 1-0 win over Azerbaijan, were left out of the squad, namely Lokomotiv Moscow's uncapped midfielder Dmitry Tarasov and third-choice stopper Anton Shunin, replaced by Alexander Belenov of FC Kuban.
Capello has given regular fringe players another chance to win a first senior cap with Dynamo Moscow defender Vladimir Granat and the Lokomotiv Moscow pair of Magomed Ozdoev and Maxim Grigoryev all included.
Ex-Chelsea full back Yuri Zhirkov was in the provisional squad but was eventually snubbed by the Italian coach, possibly to free him up to play for his title-challenging club Anzhi.
International exile continues for Andrei Arshavin, Pavel Pogrebnyak and Roman Pavlyuchenko.
The match against the U.S. is in the southern city of Krasnodar on Nov 14.
