Jharkhand Police recovers US and Pakistan made arms from Maoists

Simdega, Oct 30 (ANI): The Jharkhand Police has seized Pakistan and US made arms from an arrested area commander of Maoist group People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and his bodyguard.

Area commander Surya Don alias Subar Singh and his bodyguard Churu were arrested on Friday from the Odisha-Jharkhand border in a joint operation by the police of both the states.

After investigations, it was found out that the arms recovered from them have seals of Pakistan or US on them.

Simdega's Superintendent of Police Prabhat Kumar said: "The detailed investigation is yet to happen, but as per the information we have received so far, one of the rifle that we recovered has a seal reading 'US Carbine' on it. It is possibly made in the United States of America, also, the rifle looks like foreign-made.

"Also, we have recovered live rounds with 'POF' seal on them, which we feel is the Pakistan Ordinance Factory. Apart from this, the other bullets we have got are not made in India."

As per latest reports, the two were allegedly involved in extortion, loot and other criminal activities and the Maoists had assembled for a training camp. However, the other extremists had fled the spot.

Kumar added that the arrested rebels revealed that their supreme commander supplied the arms to them.

"In the primary interrogation with the two arrested Maoists, it was known that the arms are supplied to them through their supremo. We have to further investigate as to how the Maoist supremo got these foreign made weapons," he said.

The recent crackdowns on rebel-dominated areas across India had raised hopes that the government was winning the battle against the Maoists. (ANI)
