Government is committed to promote sports facilities :Kiran Walia

The Govt. of Delhi is committed to provide sports facilities to all the students in schools in Delhi. The Minister of Education, Social Welfare, Women and Child Development, Govt. of Delhi Prof. Kiran Walia spoken while she was inaugurating 3 days All India Rajiv Gandhi Gold Cup Tournament organized by Directorate of Education at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium at Bawana.

On the occasion she said that Govt. will promote sports activities in all the schools and educational institutions for providing better facilities to the students who wish to make sports as their career.

Paying tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, Prof. Walia said that he was a great visionary who always pleaded for greater role of the youth in all spares of life whether it is education, technology, science, polity or sports.

This year in the instant event, she said that 12 teams of Basketball having 144 sportsmen, 160 sportsmen of Badminton, 512 sportsmen of Judo and 305 sportsmen of wrestling are participating in the tournament. She said that Govt. of translating a vision of Rajiv Gandhi into action by this way.

Prof. Walia said that the Govt. has increased the prize money of the sports activities to give a boost to the young generation. Apart from this, the Govt. has also ensured participation of physically challenged students in the sports activities so that they can have better opportunities to participate in the sports activities along with other students.

She said that she has instructed the Directorate of Education to construct a swimming pool in the stadium at Bawana to extend the facility of swimming to the swimmers activity in schools.
