New Delhi, Oct 27 (IANS) A Nobel Memorial Wall was unveiled at two Metro stations here Saturday to spread awareness about the seven Indians who have been bestowed the honour.
The Wall, which displays photographs of the Indian Nobel laureates, was jointly inaugurated by the Swedish embassy and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The display will be on till Nov 2 at Rajiv Chowk and Noida City Centre stations.
The wall was inaugurated as part of the Sweden-India Nobel Memorial Week.
"The contributions of our Nobel laureates have given India recognition all over the world. The Nobel Wall on the Delhi Metro is unique way to honor them. It also gives an opportunity to our youth to know about our nobel laureates while they are on the move," said DMRC managing director Mangu Singh.
The Nobel Memorial Wall has portraits of Rabindranath Tagore, C.V. Raman, Hargobind Khorana, Mother Teresa, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, Amartya Sen and Venkatraman Ramakrishnan and details about their work.
Swedish ambassador Harald Sandberg said: "For six years now, the Embassy of Sweden and Swedish companies celebrate the Swedish-India Memorial week, where we pay tribute to the contribution of Alfred Nobel and the Indian Nobel laureates highlighting the importance of innovations."
Sandberg said that this year's theme is 'Co Creating the Future'.
"What better way to begin that than to reach two million commuters through the innovation in public transport system that has changed the face of New Delhi," he added.
