Mahinder Nagpal, Leader of House in North Delhi Municipal Corporation has informed that the North Delhi Municipal Corporation is going to announce holiday on 'Chhath Puja' falling on 19th November in all NDMC offices and institutions. The decision will be taken in the Meeting of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation to be held on 30thOctober, 2012.
Nagpal said that decision in this regard would be taken seeing the sentiments and population of the Poorvanchalis in the city and its importance for them. The festival is celebrated with much enthusiasm and great fervour in the community.
Leader of the House further informed that the erstwhile MCD also tried its best to declare Chhath a holiday last year also but the Delhi Government refused to the proposal. Nagpal informed that on the occasion of 'Chhat', the other states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh and Madya Pardesh have already declared it a holiday.
The civic body will do its best to provide all the basic services to the worshippers and those thronging Ghats for the festival, said Leader of the House. He said that declaring a holiday for Chhath Puja and providing basic services for the same is a step in this direction.
