BJP are 'corruption defenders': Congress

New Delhi, Thu, 25 Oct 2012 ANI

New Delhi/Chennai Oct 25 (ANI): Congress party on Thursday continued its barbs against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Gadkari for his alleged involvement in dubious financial dealings.

According to the report in the media, 18 companies which own 80 percent of the shares in Purti Group, owned by Gadkari, are not located at the addresses mentioned on the website of the company.

Managing director of Purti group, Sudhir Dive had dismissed corruption allegations against Gadkari, adding that he resigned from the company 14 months ago.

Commenting on this, senior Congress leader Rashid Masood termed the opposition party as 'corruption defender' and sited the example of their former chief, Bangaru Laxman's expose on camera accepting bribe.

"BJP is the only political party whose former chief, Bangaru Laxman was caught on camera taking bribe, and the term 'sting operation' was penned. The party tried to defend him too. They are corruption defenders. Gadkari and his party used to make a lot of noise against corruption and about all the scams, 2G and the others. Now that there own secrets are out, they are shamed," said Masood.

Congress leader, Digvijay Singh had written a petition to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and sought that the BJP chief should be probed on fraud charges.

Meanwhile, Minister of State in Prime Minister's Office (PMO), V Narayanasamy, said that the Prime Minister would soon take a decision on the petition.

"As far as Gadkari is concerned, the petition is pending before the Prime Minister. Whatever decision that must be taken, the Prime Minister will decide," Narayanasamy told media in Chennai.

Earlier Anjali Damania, close aide of anti-graft crusader cum politician Arvind Kejriwal had alleged that Gadkari had acquired 100 acre of farmers' land through dubious means for his private trust although he refuted these charges. (ANI)
