Chandigarh, Oct 24 (IANS) Despite the threat of another thunderstorm, effigies of demon-king Ravana and his brother and son Wednesday evening went up in flames amid bursting of crackers in Chandigarh and the adjoining states of Punjab and Haryana to mark the Dussehra festival.
In Chandigarh, the main event was at the Sector 17 Parade Ground where the effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakaran and Meghnad were set on fire to mark the victory of good over evil.
In Barara town of Haryana's Ambala district, 75 km from here, the tallest Ravana in the country, with a height of 195 feet, went up in flames.
Dussehra was also celebrated in other towns and cities of Punjab and Haryana.
At a number of places in Chandigarh, the effigies were damaged late Tuesday evening following a thunderstorm.
