Kozhikode, Oct 24 (IANS) A Spanish government organisation will impart Spanish language lessons to Keralites soon, an official said here Wednesday.

A collaboration agreement was signed recently in New Delhi between Instituto Cervantes, a Spanish government organization and the Kozhikode-based Ma'din Academy to impart Spanish language courses in Kerala.

This is the first initiative in Kerala to teach Spanish from authentic sources.

The Instituto Cervantes is a non-profit organization founded by the Government of Spain in 1991. Its mission is to promote Spanish language teaching as well as that of Spain's co-official languages, in addition to fostering knowledge of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries throughout the world.

The chairman of Ma'din Academy, Sayyid Ibraheemul Khaleelul Bukhari visited Instituto Cervantes in New Delhi and held a discussion with director of the centre Oscar Pujol Reimbau to finalise this.

According to the agreement signed by both parties, Instituto Cervantes will offer Spanish language courses from basic level to advanced at Ma'din Spanish Academy at Malappuram, near here and will provide native Spanish teachers.

"Spanish is on the verge of becoming the most popular and the most sought after foreign language in India as the number of Spanish learners and learning centres is increasing. By signing an MoU with the Ma'din Academy, we intend to promote the teaching of Spanish language and culture of Spain and Latin America in Kerala," said Reimbau.

Ma'din Academy is a developing educational hot spot based at Malappuram, with 28 various learning and charity projects which currently have 14,500 students.

"Ma'din Academy is very happy to collaborate with Instituto Cervantes and to introduce one of the most sought after languages of the modern world from its authentic native sources," said Bukhari.
