It may be due to the power shortage in Tamil Nadu maximum part of the population feels trouble, but some are who have reason to smile. Yes the current electricity shortage in Tamil Nadu has resulted a boom in candle production industry in the state and the person related to the candle industry are happy for their business boom.
Due to heavy outages, the students have resorted to candles, in order to study and prepare for the examinations under candlelight. With severe power crises prevailing across the state, demand for candles has also increased.
Sources say that there has been a rapid and continuous increase in demand for the candle due to shortage of electricity. Earlier the demand for candles were only around 10,000 pieces, three months ago the demand was around 30,000, but now due to severe power cuts in the city, demand has increased by 500,000 candles per day, but the production is only 100,000 pieces of candles per day, though there is a huge demand for candles and producers are unable to fulfill customers demand.
India's electricity distributors have become zombies. The industry's 35 billion dollar debt overhang, equivalent to two percent of the country's GDP, means it has few resources to invest in transmission and distribution. The result is massive underinvestment that chokes off economic growth - 11 percent of power demand is unmet - and causes crippling grid failures like the ones that plunged most of the country into darkness in July.
