Former Andhra minister faces arrest in land grab case

Hyderabad, Oct 13 (IANS) Former Andhra Pradesh minister P. Shankar Rao, who played a key role in sending YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy to jail in illegal assets case, now himself faces arrest in a land grabbing case.

The Congress leader Saturday reportedly went into hiding after police started looking out for him. On not finding him at home, a police team searched the premises. A police officer said they came to examine Rao but he was not available at home.

Rao's daughter Sushmita condemned police action in searching the house without a warrant. She alleged that her father was being targeted for fighting corruption.

The legislator from Secunderabad (Cantonment) assembly constituency in the state capital, is on a tour to Shirdi in Maharashtra.

Andhra Pradesh High Court had Thursday vacated the stay on Rao's arrest in land grabbing case in Greenfield Colony on the city outskirts. Some residents of the colony had last year lodged a police complaint against Rao and his brother Dayanand but Rao had obtained a stay from the court.

It was on a letter by Rao that the high court had last year ordered probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against Jaganmohan Reddy.

The controversial leader was dropped from the state cabinet by Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy in January this year. He had embarrassed the government by filing petition in the high court seeking probe into allegations of corruption against Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy.

In March this year, Rao filed another petition in the high court, seeking probe against the chief minister in what he called red sander scam.
