Varanasi , Fri, 12 Oct 2012 ANI

Varanasi, Oct.12 (ANI): At least five students died in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday after their institute's bus collided with a speeding truck.

This incident prompted students to torch police and other vehicles in the Murshidabad area of Varanasi district.

An eyewitness, Vinay, while talking to reporters, said that the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.

"The students have burnt the police vehicle and I have been informed that there are no students inside the bus. Around five to six people have died and injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital," said Vinay.

Irate students of the Kashi Institute of Technology claimed that the administration had failed to take adequate steps to prevent such accidents from happening.

Several vehicles, including two trucks and a police van, were seen ablaze on the road.

Road accidents are common in India, where roads are often of poor quality. Transport officials attribute a large number of accidents in India to reckless driving, untrained drivers and overcrowded buses. (ANI)
