New Delhi/Haridwar, Oct 10 (ANI): Minister of State for Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs Harish Rawat on Wednesday condemned Baba Ramdev's controversial remark against Congress President Sonia Gandhi, saying the yoga guru is now frustrated, as his movement has failed to spark.

"Such a comment is unfortunate and a saint making such a comment is extremely unfortunate. Sonia Gandhi through her visit helped in the healing of wounds of the victim's family and inspired the administration to work more efficiently. I think Ramdev is getting frustrated that his movement has failed," Rawat told mediapersons here.

While taking a jibe at Sonia Gandhi's comment that rapes take place not only in Haryana, but in other states too, Ramdev earlier said the UPA chairperson has insulted the feminine gender.

"Over 30 cases of unfortunate incidents of rape have been reported from Haryana in the last one month. And one of the most powerful women of the country goes there and says that such incidents happen all over the country," Ramdev told mediapersons in Haridwar.

"She should not protect her chief ministers like this. The UPA chairperson has insulted the mothers, sisters and daughters of this country through her remark," he added.

Sonia Gandhi yesterday visited the family of a Dalit teenaged girl in Haryana's Jind District, who immolated herself after being allegedly gang-raped on Saturday, and assured them of all help.

The Congress President after meeting the rape victim's family said those guilty of such heinous crimes, which take place not only in Haryana but elsewhere too, must be severely punished.

Gandhi also rejected the suggestion of a Haryana Khap Panchayat that marriageable age for girls should be reduced to 16 as this will help in curbing the increasing instances of rapes in the state.

"The country has a democratic system and an independent judiciary and the law is in the hands of judiciary and nobody else," she said.

The Congress Government in Haryana has drawn flak from all quarters for its alleged failure to prevent incidents of crime against Dalits and women.

The 16-year-old girl had sprinkled kerosene and immolated herself after allegedly being gang-raped by two youths in Narwana sub-division of the district.

The victim had breathed her last at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences at Rohtak, where she was rushed from Narwana Civil hospital with 90 percent burn injuries.

14 rape cases have been reported from the Congress-ruled state in the last one month. (ANI)
