London, Oct 9 (ANI): Ace golfer Tiger Woods has revealed that he personally apologised to every single rookie player of the United States Ryder team which dramatically lost to Team Euro despite having a commanding lead, for his worst showing in seven appearances.
The 14-time major champion lost each of his first three games in partnership with Steve Stricker, before gaining a half point against Francesco Molinari which he deemed irrelevant after Europe has already completed an astonishing comeback from trailing 10-6 to retain the trophy.
Woods plainly believes he shouldered much of the blame for the US team's Ryder Cup defeat, and he personally expressed regret to Brandt Snedeker, Keegan Bradley, Jason Dufner and Webb Simpson, who were the four first timers in the American team.
"I had an opportunity to earn three points in team sessions and didn't do that," the Telegraph quoted Woods, as saying.
"We were 10-6 up but Stricks and I didn't win any points and, obviously if we had, our lead would have been even more commanding. My point [in the final match] didn't matter when all was said and done. Stricks and I were sent out to win points and we didn't do it. That was frustrating," he added.
"It has been difficult, there is no doubt. We held a great lead and couldn't manage to win from a perfect position. That was tough. Some guys were pretty bombed out by what happened," he said.
Woods added: "For me, it didn't set in for a couple of days. As soon as I got home, I had two sick kids to take care of. They were not at school, they had fevers, so I had to focus on them. Then I started to talk to friends and it started to sink in. That's when it got tough." (ANI)
