Kalyan Singh may announce return to BJP

Lucknow , Fri, 05 Oct 2012 ANI

Lucknow, Oct.5 (ANI): Political circles are abuzz with speculations of former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Kalyan Singh, returning to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Singh is likely to address around 500 workers of his Jan Kranti Party led by his son Rajvir Singh.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Uttar Pradesh unit chief Laxmikant Bajpai said Kalyan Singh has his own political party and it is his right to decide to hold any meeting.

"He has his own political party and it is his right to decide, if he has to hold a meeting or not. We do not know the purpose or the subject to be discussed in the meeting, which is why can't say anything, until an announcement is made after the meeting. I will still say that anything is possible in politics," Bajpai told media persons on Friday here.

Bajpai called it more of a homecoming, adding that if Kalyan Singh decides to return, then it would further strengthen the party.

"I think it is more of a homecoming and the party was strengthened by him since the beginning. Misunderstandings in politics and taking a decision based on those misunderstandings are common. If he takes a decision to return, the BJP will be strengthened and we will be able to serve the state in a better manner," he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Vinay Katiyar, said he would be more than happy if Singh returned to the party, since he has spent almost his entire life working for the party.

"I do not know, but if he returns to the BJP, I would be happy. He has a clean character, he has worked a lot for the party and BJP is his home. He has spent almost his entire life working for the party and he has taught us so much, which is why I say that I will be happy on his return," he said.

Singh had broken away from BJP twice. He first parted ways in 1999-2000 to form his Rashtriya Kranti Party, which continued till the saffron party took him back in February, 2004, eyeing his exceptional following among Lodh Rajputs and the Other Backward Classes. (ANI)
