Nepalese officials say 'panic-stricken' pilot's error likely cause of plane crash

Kathmandu , Sun, 30 Sep 2012 ANI

Kathmandu, Sept. 30 (ANI): The plane crash in Nepal that left 19 dead on Friday, was most probably caused by a 'panic-stricken' pilot, Nepalese aviation officials have said.

"The pilot' failure to maintain the required radius is a likely cause of the accident,"senior ministry official Suresh Acharya said, adding the plane turned too sharply because it had not gained enough altitude.

The plane's right engine had burst into flames after being hit by a large bird leading it to plummet into a river bank and explode into a huge fireball.

According to the Telegraph, Ratish Chandra Suman, an official from Tribhuvan International Airport, said the pilot had reported problem two minutes after take-off and appeared to have been trying to come back to the airport.

The Dornier aircraft crashed on the bank of the Manohara river on Friday in clear weather, and witnesses said it had already caught fire before it crashed.

Air accident investigators from the UK are now heading to Nepal to help with the investigation into the cause of the Everest-bound plane crash, killing all 19 on board, including British and Chinese Everest-bound trekkers, the report added. (ANI)
