Indian women's cricket team hopes to fare well in T20 World Cup
Colombo, Sept 23 (ANI): Captain of the Indian Women's cricket team, Mitali Raj, on Sunday reflected confidence of faring well in the ensuing Twenty20 World Cup tourney to be staged in Sri Lanka.
Speaking to ANI after a practice match against New Zealand here, a game that India lost by four wickets, Mitali said that the mood in the Indian dressing room was upbeat.
"I think so far the preparation has been good. We have emphasised on playing more matches. Now that we are into the tournament and we have played our game against New Zealand, though the result is not very positive, but some of the things were very positive, like the openers have done a decent job by giving us a good start. Our spinners have been bowling well. So there are few areas where we feel we should be implementing more. If that goes on well on the set day against Australia and England then I am sure things can change for the Indian women's cricket team," she said.
Choosing to bat first, the Indian team was all out for 100 in 19.4 overs. The New Zealand women successfully chased the target in 18.1 overs for the loss of six wickets.
Left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht picked up three wickets for six runs in her three overs.
This was the last of the four warm-up matches scheduled for the eight teams participating in the tournament.
Eight teams are vying for the honour with India placed in Group A alongside Australia, Pakistan and England. Group B comprises New Zealand, West Indies, Sri Lanka and South Africa. (ANI)
