New Delhi, Sep.20 (ANI): The Kabul Delhi Restaurant situated in E-block of Lajpat Nagar II in South Delhi evokes memories of Kabul.

Relations between Afghanistan and India have traditionally been friendly, and this, was reflected recently during the opening of the Kabul Delhi, a restaurant that serves Afghan food cooked by Hashmat Pirzaela, an Afghan, and Dilshad Ahmed, an Indian.

Hashmat and Dilshad were troubled by the problems faced by Afghans who came to India for medical treatment, but didn't have any place where they could get Afghan food,

which is less spicy in comparison to Indian food.

"Lajpat Nagar is favoured for its proximity to a number of hospitals. Afghan's get cheap accommodation and guest houses, and after the opening of this restaurant, people have started coming here in huge numbers, as they get all facilities here", said Hashmat Pirzaela, a partner in the Kabul Delhi Restaurant.

The popular Nan-Uzbeki, supplies Nan-e-Afghani (the national Bread of Afghanistan) exclusively to the Kabul Delhi Restaurant and to others. But, there is more to it. The owner of Nan- Uzbeki ,Nakibullah ,says this restaurant has shown him his worth and instilled in him a sense of productivity.

This venture of Dilshad and Hashmat has rightly highlighted the fact that food knows no borders. Such restaurants are expected to facilitate greater interaction between the two communities.

"Lajpat Nagar is now known as Small Afghanistan. Every other person here is of Afghan origin, and this is because of the food and culture, hence people prefer coming here. This is a Small Afghanistan." said Dilshad Ahmed, Partner of Kabul Delhi Restaurant.

The chef has been specially arranged from Afghanistan to ensure that the ethnicity and quality of the food is not compromised. Some of the mouth watering dishes served here like Qabuli Uzbegi, Mantu , chicken Chopan are a big hit amongst the clients and a must try.

"I study here. This Afghanistan restaurant provides good food and is similar to our country. India is nice and people are kind to us," said Mohammad Hashim, customer.

Indeed, food crosses every border and touches every heart in every nation, and this holds true for the Kabul Delhi Restaurant, which serves some of the best food from Afghanistan. By Ankita Gupta (ANI)
