Shimla, Sep 18 (IANS) Temperatures across Himachal Pradesh fell Tuesday due to widespread rain with Hamirpur town recording the highest amount - 164 mm - in the state, the met office said. More rains are in store.
"Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at some places. The rain lowered the maximum and minimum temperatures by one to three notches in the past 24 hours (since Monday)," an official of the local meteorological office told IANS.
According to the Met office, rains will continue in the region as western disturbances as an upper air system over Jammu and Kashmir and the neighbourhood still persist and are interacting with the easterly winds at the lower levels over the western Himalayas.
Dharamsala, Una, Palampur, Manali and Kasauli towns experienced 134 mm, 126 mm, 94 mm, 26 mm and 76 mm, respectively, till Tuesday morning. However, capital Shimla experienced only 7.3 mm.
Keylong, the district headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti district, saw 43 mm of rain, while the hills overlooking the town experienced mild spells of snow.
Met office director Manmohan Singh said there are chances of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in the state throughout Wednesday.
Incessant rains have also caused massive landslides on National Highways 21 and 22 in Shimla, Kinnaur, Mandi and Kullu districts, hampering vehicular traffic.
The water level in the major rivers of the state - the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna - which enter the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana has also increased.
Meanwhile, Shimla Tuesday recorded a high of 18.4 degrees Celsius, a fall from Monday's 21.2 degrees.
