UAE, Bhutan establish diplomatic ties

New York, Sep 15 (IANS/WAM) The governments of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bhutan have formally established diplomatic ties.

At a diplomatic event held Sep 13 in New York, both countries signed a joint communique on the establishment of ties at the level of ambassadors in accordance with the provisions of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

The UAE was represented by Ahmed Al-Jarman, its permanent representative to the UN, and Bhutan was represented by Lhatu Wangchuk, its permanent representative to the UN.

The communique said the two governments were willing to promote mutual understanding and strengthen friendship and cooperation in political, economic, social, humanitarian, cultural and scientific areas.

They would respect the principles of equality, sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs.
