Consumers owe Rs.232 bn to Pakistan's power firms

Islamabad, Sep 11 (IANS) Public and private sector consumers owe Rs.232 billion to companies supplying electricity across Pakistan, authorities said.

The ministry of water and power told the National Assembly Monday that the power companies had Rs.232 billion outstanding against private and public sector consumers, reported Dawn.

For instance, the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company has recoverable bills of Rs.20 billion from the public sector organisations and Rs.11.263 billion from private consumers, the Sukkur Electric Supply Company has to recover Rs.29.7 billion from private consumers and Rs.18 billion from the public sector.

Officials blamed political influence for poor recovery both in Hyderabad and Sukkur.
