Samajwadi Party has no immediate plans for third front: Nanda
Kolkata, Sep 9 (IANS) Ruling out any immediate chances of forging a third front, a senior Samajwadi Party leader Sunday said his party wanted good relations with all parties opposed to the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.
"There is no question of any third front now. There are no immediate chances," Samajwadi Party general secretary Kiranmoy Nanda told IANS.
"We want good relations with outfits like the BJD (Biju Janata Dal), Telegu Desam and the left parties," he said.
Nanda, a long time minister in the erstwhile Left Front government in West Bengal, said his party also wanted good political relations with the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
Samajwadi chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and Banerjee had come together ahead of the presidential polls to declare their common panel of candidates for the top post, but the bonhomie did not last long as Mulayam Singh did a u-turn to support Congress nominee Pranab Mukherjee.
However, Nanda refused to pay much heed to the presidential poll saga. "We still have very good equations with the Trinamool."
The Samajwadi Party is lending outside support to the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) central government.
Noting that his party's support to the Congress was issue-based, Nansa said the SP differed with the UPA on issues like the promotion quota bill.
Mulayam Singh and his son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav will attend the SP's two-day national executive committee meet here Sep 12-13, where the party's stand on the 2014 general elections will be discussed.
