Apple distances itself from Samsung by slashing memory chip order for new iPhone

London, Sept 8 (ANI): Apple has reportedly slashed its memory chip orders from Samsung for the upcoming next-generation iPhone, in a bid to reduce its reliance on the rival Korean mobile manufacturer.

Samsung has been a core supplier of Apple, producing micro processors, flat screens and memory chips for the iPhone, iPad and iPod.

Sources revealed that Apple has been cutting its orders from Samsung in a bid to diversify its lines of supply for memory chips.

Samsung, however, remains on the list of initial suppliers for the first batch of the new iPhone, the Telegraph reports.

According to the paper, Apple has apparently picked Japan's Toshiba Corp, Elpida Memory and Korea's SK Hynix to supply DRAM and NAND chips.

The source denied claims that the reduced orders from Apple were due to a souring relationship between the two companies who are locked in patent disputes in various countries. (ANI)
