Outrage over EU's plans forcing UK companies to hire more 'women directors'

London, Sep 5 (ANI): European Unions' (EU) plans to introduce boardroom quotas that see UK companies to hire more female directors have sparked fury among British parliamentarians.
Marina Yannakoudakis, Tory MEP for London, hit out at the latest meddling from Brussels.
"Legally-enforceable quotas for women in the boardrooms of major companies would be bad for business and bad for genuine equality," the Daily Express quoted Yannakoudakis as, saying.
The proposals by the European Commission, which could be introduced by 2020, see British companies facing fines if they do not allocate at least 40 per cent of their non-executive director seats to women.
Research published by the commission earlier this year revealed that just one in seven board members at Europe's top companies is a woman and at that current rate it would take more than 40 years to reach a gender balance of at least 40 per cent of both sexes, the paper said. (ANI)
