'Stable, peaceful' Afghanistan vital for 'prosperity of Pakistan': Khar

Islamabad, Sept 4 (ANI): Pakistan Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar has stressed that a stable and a peaceful Afghanistan is essential for the prosperity of her own country.

She stressed that Pakistan, in its core national interest, is irrevocably committed to achieving stability in Afghanistan through an Afghan-led and Afghan-owned reconciliation process.

Khar also pointed out that Afghans themselves need to define the contours of the reconciliation process.

Her remarks came during the "Changing Global Environment: Pakistan's Perspective," hosted by the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin, the Express Tribune reports.

According to the paper, Khar pointed out that Pakistan was not only looking after 2.5 million Afghan refugees, but was also actively contributing towards reconstruction and rebuilding efforts in Afghanistan.

She added that more than 500,000 Afghan children were benefiting from Pakistan's education system and that Afghan refugees were enjoying 2,000 fully funded scholarships in the country.

According to the report, Khar further pointed out that government hospitals in the country were providing free medical treatment to hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees. (ANI)
