Ex-Ukrainian PM Yulia Tymoshenko begs West to act against country's "Mafia Godfathers"

Kiev, Sept. 2 (ANI): Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has urged Western powers to act against those who have taken over the country, including the country's mafia-like leaders and current Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych for corruption.

In an interview smuggled out of the prison hospital room where she lies in constant pain, she has condemned fresh allegations linking her to a murder as so ridiculous that they are akin to saying she caused an earthquake.

According to the Daily Mail, she said that crooked contracts lost the former communist state 125-billion-pounds-a-year, with projects such as the building of stadiums for this summer's Euro 2012 football championships costing far more than their true value.

She accused Yanukovych of being a gangster and dictator who imprisons his political opponents and is despised and feared by his people, and she begged the democratic world to take notice.

"My only crime is that Yanukovych knows my freedom will bring about the end of his political career, which he guards like the Godfather," she said.

"The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, said last May that dictatorship has been established in Ukraine and its people are suffering from political repressions and live in fear. She is absolutely right," she added.

"Ukraine has become a dictatorship where the president and his subordinates publicly accuse their political opponents of the worst crimes without investigation or evidence. Political punishment and persecution are a part of life and there is no rule of law apart from "Alice in Wonderland" justice " sentence first, verdict afterward," Tymoshenko said.

"I would say dictatorship is currently in its active construction stage. Yanukovych has set a deadline for his 'building project' the parliamentary elections this October," she said while warning the West.

"If he succeeds in his plan to falsify the elections, the president and his political henchmen will create a constitutional majority and put the last nail in the coffin of Ukrainian democracy for decades to come," she added.

According to the report, Tymoshenko became Prime Minister after the 2004 revolution to rapturous public acclaim.

Last week Tymoshenko lost her appeal against conviction on charges connected to her signing of a Russian gas contract, which she claims are a tissue of lies inspired by Yanukovych, the man she helped remove from power in 2004, but who returned to defeat her in the 2010 presidential election, the report added.
