Texmaco's coach unit to be commissioned this fiscal

Kolkata, Aug 30 (IANS) Leading wagon manufacturer Texmaco, which is in the process of product diversification, has said that its unit for EMU (electric multiple unit) and metro coaches would be commissioned within this fiscal.

The rollout of EMU coaches is likely by second half of next fiscal. The manufacturing unit is being built at Texmaco's Sodepur unit in West Bengal, the company said Wednesday.

"In the coach project, we are gradually progressing from the EMU to the other projects. To begin with we have already started the project for EMU. The project will be commissioned this year," Texmaco Rail & Engineering Ltd. secretary A.K. Vijay told reporters on the sidelines of the annual general meeting of the company here.

"Rollout of the product will be during the second part of the next fiscal," Vijay said.

The Kolkata-based wagon maker is currently focusing on manufacturing EMU coaches and freight cars on the back of sharp fall in price realisation in the wagon industry following intense competitions.
