Apple's first computer set to fetch 80,000 pounds at auction

Washington, Aug. 29 (ANI): One of the first Apple computers that company founder Steve Jobs made and sold from his parents' garage is expected to be sold for up to 80,000 pounds at an auction, which is 190 times its original price.

The iconic, Apple 1, computer will be auctioned at Christie's in central London on October 9.

According to the Daily Mail, the rare opportunity to buy an original Apple computer is expected to attract worldwide interest from museums and private technology collectors.

Christie's scientific specialist James Hyslop said the computer's pre-sale estimate reflected a growing interest in early computer technology.

"This is the computer that started Apple, now recognized as the most valuable company in the world," Hyslop said.

"Its significance in making computer technology accessible for all cannot be undervalued," he added.

According to the report, Jobs invested all he had to make the first Apple computer after selling his VW van.

Around 200 original Apple 1s were designed and hand-built by Jobs' friend and co-founder Steve Wozniak and was launched in 1976, the report said.

The 420 pound Apple 1 did not have a keyboard or monitor, meaning users had to buy their own, the report added.

Earlier this year, a rare working Apple 1 computer has been sold at auction in New York for 374,500 dollars to an unidentified bidder, leaving the previous record price of $212,000 in its wake, the report said. (ANI)
