London, Aug 29(ANI): Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said he is gutted by the horror injury he suffered during the team's match against Fulham on Saturday, and thanked everyone for their messages of support on Twitter.
The thigh injury is expected to keep Rooney sidelined for around two months, and the England striker posted a picture on Twitter of himself resting his bandaged right leg on the sofa at home.
"Thanks for all the messages of support. Gutted to be out for a while but my leg will be ok which is the main thing," The Daily Mail quoted Rooney, as tweeting.
Rooney is likely to have to wait until the wound has healed before he can find out exactly how long he should expect to be kept out.
United are optimistic that the wound will restore to health quickly, although any movement that could disturb the wound complicates it, as Rooney underwent surgery on Sunday.
The cut to Rooney's leg is understood to have been so severe that it flabbergasted surgeons who operated on him in hospital on Saturday night.
The gash caused by the studs of Fulham striker Hugo Rodallega was deep enough to cut all the way to the thighbone and required surgery under general anaesthetic.
Rooney had to have stitches to the muscle and then to close up the wound. (ANI)
