KGB veteran shoots neighbour

Russian Federation,Crime/Disaster/Accident, Wed, 29 Aug 2012 IANS

Moscow, Aug 29 (IANS) An 81-year-old former officer of Russian intelligence agency KGB allegedly shot at a neighbour and another man after a petty dispute over a misplaced fence, RIA Novosti reported.

The former KGB officer was outraged by the fence put up by his neighbour, saying it encroached on his land, according to Donnews.ru.

A verbal dispute led to the two trying to scald each other with hot water.

The former KGB man then pulled out a double-barrelled shotgun and also fired several rounds from a 1921 Walther pistol. His opponent answered with a lead shot from a Vepr hunting carbine.

In the end, the KGB man was hospitalised with injuries to his chest and pelvis, while the neighbour and his employee, who happened to be at the scene, both sustained wounds on their shoulders, police said.

The KGB veteran faces prosecution for illegal firearms possession, with his antiquated Walther capable of landing him behind bars for up to four years, police said.
