Theatre 'not just for posh and intellectual'

London, August 28 (ANI): Visiting theatres to enjoy plays and musicals is not just the preserve of well-educated and wealthy people, a research has revealed.

The study analysed the habits of 300 theatregoers and found that the audiences belong to three distinct types.

The "well-off" make up 43 per cent of those who attend the theatre. They enjoy a wide variety of shows and are ready to pay even the highest prices, the Daily Express reported.

"Intellectuals" form 32 per cent of the audience, who prefer drama and are not influenced by reviews.

The third group is the "working" class, which makes-up 25 per cent of all the theatre-goers and includes the young, who prefer comedy and want to pay less for a seat.

Jose Grisolia, of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, who carried out the research, claimed that the study could have affect on sales policies of the theatres.

"The results are very useful for sales policies and help us to understand the role theatre plays in each strand of society," she said.
