No restrictions on public entry at India Gate: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Tue, 28 Aug 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Aug.28 (ANI): Delhi Police on Tuesday rubbished and rejected media reports that suggested that Delhi Police intends to impose restrictions on entry of public at India Gate.

Stating that this was not true, Rajan Bhagat, Public Relations Officer, Delhi Police, said in a statement: "Delhi Police has only informed the concerned agencies that India Gate can be a potential terror target, as it is an iconic monument, and that while security has been beefed up at the venue, the lighting provided is not adequate and the entire area is poorly lit."

He further said: " The agencies have been requested to improve the lighting arrangements in the entire area surrounding the monument. They have also been requested to create additional parking space behind the water channels located in the lawns on both sides of Rajpath to prevent disruption of traffic due to haphazard parking by the public. There is no intention to prevent the public from enjoying the Central Vista lawns on security grounds." (ANI)
