BJP doing drama to hide facts, says minister

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS) The government Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of enacting a "drama" over coal blocks allocation to prevent a debate in parliament as it would expose the party's involvement.

"It is very clear that if a debate is held, then the BJP chief ministers' letters to the prime minister on coal block allocation and the recommendations of the state governments would come out. To hide the fact, the BJP is doing this drama," Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V. Narayanasamy told reporters.

The ruling United Progressive Alliance's (UPA) constituents and supporting parties, he added, had given notice for a debate in parliament on coal blocks allocation.

"The government says it is willing to debate the issue, but unfortunately the BJP did not allow the prime minister to read out his statement in parliament," said Narayanasamy.

The Congress will "expose the BJP inside and outside parliament on their double face", he said.

The Congress announced earlier that lakhs of party workers would "hit the streets" to expose the BJP "shedding crocodile tears" over the sanctity of constitutional bodies.

The BJP has been demanding Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's resignation over the Comptroller and Auditor General's report on coal blocks allocation and has stalled parliament for the last six days.
