London, Aug 25 (ANI): Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth has admitted that she lobbied for her brother James to be demoted at the family's News Corp media empire over his handling of the phone-hacking scandal, and pushed former News International chief Rebekah Brooks out of the company.
Elisabeth said that behind closed doors she piled on the pressure for James to take a lesser role at the media behemoth.
Elisabeth also agreed that she had been "quite forceful" in calling for Brooks to resign and for her brother to "take a step back".
"Yes, it is, but it was said within closed doors and Rebekah did resign. She had to resign," the Telegraph quoted her, as saying.
Brooks stepped down as chief executive of News International in July last year, shortly after the business decided to axe The News of the World in the wake of the phone hacking scandal.
James Murdoch eventually resigned his chairmanships of News Corp's UK newspaper business, News International, and of BSkyB television.
Elisabeth's comments follow a public attack on her brother during an event on Thursday, in which she criticized James for prioritising "profit" over "purpose".
According to the paper, Elisabeth, who is chairman of the News Corp-owned television production business, claimed reports that she had said James and Rebekah had "f***** the company" were "completely fabricated".
"I don't think I've spoken once publicly about my family until yesterday, in relation to those things," she said during the Edinburgh Television Festival. (ANI)
