Let sports be freed of politicians, says Uttarakhand MLA

New Delhi, Aug 24 (ANI): A politician feels that sports in India needs to be freed from the clutches of the political class. He believes that only when politicians are removed from the management of sports bodies, will India perform better internationally.

Saddened by India's poor showing at the London Olympics, Kunwar Pranav Singh a.k.a. "Champion", a three-time Asian wrestling champion and three time MLA from Uttarakhand, feels that parliament should enact a law to ban non-sportsmen from holding positions in sports bodies - states and national federations as well as departments of sports and youth welfare in state and Central Governments.

Kunwar Pranav Singh, who is presently the Chairman of the Uttarakhand Forest Development Corporation, says the problem in the sports world was that wrong persons were sitting on Central positions.

"They have no idea of either the intricacies of the game, nor do they have any ability to recognize talent. The result is that the sports in this country is suffering," he said while speaking to media persons in New Delhi on Friday.

Kunwar Pranav Singh said that he proposes to launch a national campaign to generate awareness around these issues, besides holding a 'dharna' (demonstration) and a rally at Jantar Mantar this Sunday. (ANI)
