New Delhi, Aug 24 (IANS) Now travelling to Jaipur will be easier, with the Indian Railways Friday starting its second double-decker air conditioned train from Delhi to the Rajasthan capital.

The double decker coaches can carry 120 passengers, up from 78 in the normal ones.

The first AC Double Decker train was introduced between Howrah-Dhanbad in 2011, Railway Minister Mukul Roy said after flagging off the train from Sarai Rohilla station here.

The minister said the AC Double Decker coach, designed and manufactured at Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, was a noteworthy achievement as it was a big challenge for the railways to design one.

"The entire rail network and coach designs need to meet standard dimensions in length, breadth and height as per bridges, overhead electricity wire, tunnels... It is not feasible to either enhance the width of the coach or increase its height," he said.

The coaches are made of stainless steel, which reduces their weight. They have crash-worthy shells. The air springs in the coaches provide for comfortable travel, an official said.
