US gold medallist Douglas reveals making 'sacrifices' on her path to Games' glory
Washington, Aug 24 (ANI): US Olympic gold medallist Gabrielle Douglas has revealed the number of sacrifices she had to make and the several challenges she faced to achieve unprecedented success on the grandest stage of sports competition, that too, at the age of just 16.
Douglas, who was spotted celebrating after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch before the start of the Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets game at Citi Field, wants her story of hardship growing up to be an inspiration.
"I wanted everyone to know my story, know where I came from, know my background. It was not easy. I had to face a lot coming through this journey, a lot of sacrifices, difficulties, challenges, even injuries," the New York Post quoted Douglas, as saying.
"So, I wanted everyone to know it still is possible in any sport for anyone. I wanted to make them know, never give up and just keep fighting because though times may be tough, sacrifices are not in vain and they do pay off," she added.
"So, just keep pushing toward your dream and just love it at the same time and enjoy it," she said.
Douglas became the first American gymnast to win gold in both the individual all-around and team competitions at the same Olympics. (ANI)
