Koraput (Odisha), Aug.21 (ANI): Security forces in Odisha's Koraput District have confirmed the death of a Maoist leader in an encounter on Sunday.
The rebel was identified as Teli Kadraka alias Rajendra, and he was shot dead during an encounter in the Badamatura Forest area of the district.
Superintendent of Police, Koraput District, Avinash Kumar, told media that a search and cordon operation was launched on receiving a tip off from informants about Maoist movements.
"On 19th evening, police got information, that there was some movement of Naxals (Maoists) in that area. Based on that information, a police party went into that area, and in that process, they encountered the Naxal party, then when fire came from Naxal's side, the police party also fired. When firing stopped, thereafter, police searched the area and found one Naxal cadre," said Kumar.
Kumar said a gun, ammunitions and Maoist literature and materials were also seized from the spot.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has described the Maoists as India's biggest internal security threat.(ANI)
