Chinese residents 'trembling' under motorway built 'just meters' above buildings!

Beijing, Aug. 17 (ANI): A handful of residents in Guiyang, south west China, are living directly under a motorway, which is built just a few meters above their homes.

Families residing under the motorway have also been forced to sleep with cotton wool in their ears to cope with the noise.

The houses built under the Shuikousi bridge even tremble, when lorries, buses and other vehicles pass, to the extent that one resident said that he was so used to the trembling that he did not feel the Wenchuan earthquake in 2008, despite it shaking the city.

According to the Daily Mail, the bridge was completed in May 1997, and about 10 residential buildings were built under it two years later as part of low-rent housing and resettlement housing projects.

But instead of pedestrians walking across overhead, for years homes of the residents trembled as cars and heavy duty trucks past, the report said.

According to the report, the noise dulled somewhat when, in September 2009, the authorities stopped lorries from travelling on the bridge and light trucks travelling across it in the evening.

But now residents said that the biggest problem is dust from the road, the report said.

Describing the din, the resident said that the ceiling would quiver and the windows and glass would shake and he'd have to put cotton wool balls in his ears to cope with the noise.

The bridge at 300 meters long it's a major thoroughfare and central access route to Longdongbao Airport.

The city, in south west China, has a population of four million, and is located at the junction of four major segments of the national highway grid. (ANI)
