Ex-Chelsea boss says Van Persie would give Man U 'edge' in 'tightest' PL contest ever
London, Aug 16(ANI): Former Chelsea manager Gianluca Vialli believes signing striker Robin Van Persie from Arsenal would give Manchester United the edge over rivals in this season's Premier League championship.
Vialli said this season Premier League would be the closest championship in its history with United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspurs all in with a shot.
However, Vialli believes Wayne Rooney and Van Persie's strike partnership would be the best in the Premier League, and he would certainly bet his money on United reclaiming English title.
"It [is] a massive signing. Van Persie and Rooney combining in the same team makes for a pretty exciting striking partnership. It will be a very important addition to an already very strong team," The Daily Mirror quoted Vialli, as saying.
Now that Van Persie has gone to Old Trafford, Vialli is eagerly anticipating one of the most competitive Premier League seasons ever when the action gets underway on August 17th.
"It could be the tightest Premier League championship ever. With Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City - even Tottenham - there are more clubs than there have ever been with a shot of the title. I truly believe it," Vialli said.
"It's difficult when Manchester United doesn't win it for two years in a row, though, so if I had to bet on a club it would be them. But it's only the 15th of August so up until the 31st of August anything can change," he added. (ANI)
