Ecuador grants political asylum to Assange

Quito (Ecuador), Aug 16 (ANI): A day after the British government threatened to storm the Ecuadorean embassy in London to arrest WikiLeaks' founder Julian Assange, cuador, on Thursday granted him political asylum.

Announcing the decision in a press conference here, Ecuador Foreign Minister Ricardo Patino, said, "Ecuador has decided to grant political asylum to Julian Assange following the request sent to the president."

Earlier, Britain had said it is determined to extradite the former computer hacker to Sweden where he has been accused of rape and sexual assault. (ANI)
