Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh), Aug.15 (ANI): Authorities in Gorakhpur,Uttar Pradesh, distributed sweets and clothes to specially abled children a day before India celebrated its 66th Independence Day and hoped they would have a bright future.

Congress leader Dr. Surhita Karim said such events would help specially abled children join the mainstream of society and urged the government to implement useful schemes, which will secure them and provide them with better future prospects.

"I hope that the future of these children should become bright. They are good in studies. They score well in their high school results. The girls are bright in their studies and if the government supports and care about them, then they should implement certain schemes for these children in order to secure their future. These children should be provided with hearing aids. And the authorities should take active steps, which are helpful for these children. A small step would bring change in the life of these children," said Karim.

The event was organised by a social organisation in collaboration with the staff members of the school.

A large number of hearing impaired children attended the event. They showcased their talent by singing patriotic and inspirational songs that resonated in the entire school campus.

They put aside their mundane existence and enjoyed themselves.

"We feel satisfied after teaching them. They also get mingle with us. The crime committee organises programmes for these children from time to time. This is a good step," said Geeta Mishra, a teacher.

Approximately, 26 percent of the blind population in the country is below the age of 15.

In a bid to bring the specially abled children to join the mainstream society, currently several non government organisations are coming forward across different parts of the country.
