Srinagar, Aug 15 (ANI): Separatists called for a complete shutdown in the Kashmir Valley on Wednesday as India celebrates its Independence Day.

Major market areas in Srinagar wore a deserted look, as the government imposed curfew in the city.

The shutdown and the subsequent curfew have hit normal life.

Farooq Ahmad, a local, here said that they are feeling helpless following the shutdown, as Eid was round the corner and they had to make arrangements.

"All the factions have called for the shutdown, as today is India's Independence Day, so the whole of Kashmir is closed. Though the government has imposed a curfew, however, locals are helpless as Eid is round the corner and they have to make arrangements," he said.

Amid high security, troopers were seen patrolling the areas here with an aim to avoid any untoward incident on the Independence Day.

Authorities have also blocked the mobile network across Kashmir Valley in view of security. (ANI)
