London, Aug 14 (ANI): The Tata-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) plant in Merseyside, UK has introduced an extra work shift for its staff, moving into a 24-hour production cycle.

JLR has reportedly created another 1,000 jobs at its site in Halewood so that it can meet the demand for its Evoque and Freelander models.

According to the BBC, the staff at the plant would work in a three-shift pattern, while the new jobs are expected to take the site's workforce to 4,500.

Earlier, the automobile giant had claimed that extra spending by the firm might take place because of the significant demand from China and Russia for the new Range Rover Evoque.

In December 2010, there were more than 14,000 applications for 1,500 new jobs as the plant began production of the Evoque, the report said. (ANI)
